Dreammachine
Using this concept, I sought to bring the machine into a larger space. Created using a paper shell, lined with mirror film, spun on a record player. Then shining a projector through the spinning shell, and also shooting a live feed of what happened inside the shell using a Hi8 camera and projecting that onto a wall. I brought the machine into a broom closet, as an extension of the mind and it’s visuals.
The “Dreamachine” was invented by Brion Gysin and Ian Sommerville with the intention of creating “edietic visual stimuli”. Many believe, with science to back it, that these flickering lights created by the machine would be able to induce psychedelic effects if shone at the face with the eyes closed. Supposedly engaging the brain’s alpha waves.
